PAST WINNERS OF THE MU PHI EPSILON INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Brief History
A member of the Memorial Foundation Board, Claudette Sorel, conceived the plan for the Sterling Staff Competition in 1964. In 1979, Mu Phi Epsilon Artist Concerts became the designation for the winners' events, and at the same time the name of the competition was changed to Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition, to become effective in 1983. The Memorial Foundation changed its name to the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation in 1993.
The competition is now held once every three years; the final round coinciding with the fraternity's International Convention. Since 1964 there have been only 33 winners. The winner, jointly sponsored by the Foundation and local Mu Phi Epsilon chapters, then performs recitals, concerts and community service projects over the following two-year period.
The next Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition final round will be held in Rochester, New York, August 8-13, 2011. Deadline for entry is February 1, 2011. Application information and repertoire requirements are found elsewhere on this website.
